About the Author
Jennifer is wife to Shawn and mom to six, two of whom live with Jesus. Her surviving twin son has significant multiple disabilities. His rare form of cerebral palsy is the most impacting, requiring total care; he is non verbal and non mobile but these labels dont really define him. She also cares for her dad who was diagnosed with a rare form of dementia in his forties. She has run the special needs ministry at her church, leads a support group for special needs parents, and travels to former Soviet Belarus to help run camps for orphans, children and adults with special needs, and their families.

About the author

Jen is an avid crime show watcher, DIYer, coffee lover, and smoothie drinker. She loves adoption, redemption, and new beginnings with some foreign adventure travels thrown in. Having grown up in the Ozarks of Missouri, she was transplanted to sunny southern California before leaving the rat race and distractions for a more relaxing pace of life in eastern North Carolina. It was in North Carolina where her childhood dream of writing a book became reality. Not the topic she would have ever dreamt of, but special needs and the tough questions came about due to the birth of her very premature sons: Liam and Brady. Seeing the loneliness and isolation so many parents face along with the need for real biblical truths to help parents on their special needs journey, her first book, Beautifully Broken, was birthed. If you want to follow along with her personal journey you can find her posting on Instagram @jenmcintosh_

- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2017My brother has a special needs child. As Jen has shared her journey in this book, I have gained understanding of what the parent of a special needs child faces. The scriptures have challenged me and brought me comfort. As a sister and aunt, I have asked why. I have asked how this is going to further God's kingdom. Beautifully Broken has brought my focus back to God as I learn to walk trusting His goodness and faithfulness even in this. I appreciate Jen sharing her heart and I will gift this book to my brother and his wife. I recommend this Bible study for all people, especially those who have special needs children in their lives.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2019I bought this last year and loved it so much I bought another this year ! It really centers me and renews my spirit to be a better special needs mother ! Sometimes we are so busy taking care of everyone we forget to take care of ourselves! I recommend this book to any special needs momma with a worn and weary soul in need of renewal and guidance through the lord ! It deserves more than 5 stars !
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2017This devotion was beautifully done. Real and true. The author doesn't sugar coat her life as a special needs mom. This devotion provides comfort, reality, and perspective. Special needs moms have a lot to deal with. God has the power to take care of mom and child. A good reminder we are not alone. I look forward to reading it again at another time. It is a book I believe I will get even more out of a second time.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2017This is a wonderful resource for parents of special needs children! Jen takes you on a journey through the Bible, Old and New Testament, to reveal God's plan for those He created whose life involves special needs, be they genetic, caused from birth itself, or caused by the hands of others. Special needs can involve emotional, developmental, physical disabilities or for some it might mean all of those things, this Bible study highlights that the trials you and your child face are no surprise to God and that by placing your trust and hope in Jesus you can get through the ongoing, everyday trials that you face. The chapters in the book focus on first answering the "Why Me?"'s, God's Providence and sovereignty, grief, disability, finding that your child is made in God's Image, being called to serve your child and others, finding hope on your journey and finally embracing the normal "normal" God has given you. Jen shares parts of her testimony and shows her raw and real feelings as she discovered answers from the Bible on each of the subjects covered. This is a Bible study that would be great for those that are already Christians and those new to the faith. It gives perspective and a relational aspect that someone else out there has been where you are and there is hope! Each chapter ends with group questions and therefore would be great to go through as a group but can also be done independently. I highly recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2018Beautifully broken is written straight from the heart of a special needs mom. Jen is refreshingly and brutally honest and forthright. She opens the book sharing her and her families personally journey of loss and heartache, and then weaves in the beauty of hope and the lessons learned. Our family has been doing foster care for almost four years, and the children we welcome into our home include all types of disabilities, both physical and emotional. Jen's study covers the heart of God toward children with disabilities, but also the heart of the caregiver. Thank you for writing something that can encourage and inspire healing for generations to come!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2017So beautifully written, from a Godly woman's viewpoint and as the parent of a child with Special Needs. I had a brother-in-law with Special Needs and know some of the struggles my mother-in-law had with him. This devotional booklet would have been a great guide for my in-laws. I also personally work with children and adults with Special Needs and I really feel this book would be a great guide for those parents. Jen writes with such Godly insight and I would highly recommend this book to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and anyone who has connection with any specially made children or adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read for any parent with a child with a disability
I’ve worked my way through this book with a mix of emotion and so many tears. Tears of sadness of what could of been have been mixed with joy of the journey. I am in a weird place after losing one child and now adopting another with very complex needs. Yet this book has reminded that there is so much joy to found in brokeneness, how I am not alone but also the greatest reminder that God knows my heart and walks alongside me. Thank you so much Jen for this book it has blessed me in so many ways.
