LOCAL MUSICIAN DIES -  AJ Cascio was a well-known performer in the NW Louisiana music scene.  He was a vocalist and played the harmonica and was well known artist in the blues genre.  He played with many different groups through the years and was generous with his time and talents as he performed during many on-air pledge drives for Red River Radio.  We’re sad to report that AJ Cascio passed away this week at the age of 81.

Alan Dyson, local architect, musician, artist and president of the Shreveport House Concert series shared some thoughts about AJ Cascio and what impact he had on the local music scene.

DYSON: "He's a harp player and a vocalist and one of the busiest musicians, most consistently over these years of anyone that I know; playing blues primarily.

I've known AJ in a didfferent capacity  than most as part of the Shreveport House Concert Series.  AJ was there at the very beginning working with Dana McCommon,  myself and others to help put the Shreveport Concert Series together.   AJ was always very humble about the thing, I kept asking him if he'd like us to feature him at the House Concert Series and he says 'well no, a lot of people can come out and see me for free and your ticket price is  $20'.  He just never thought it would work.  And I thought can't you imagine for people to hear you in that environment.

always declined on that and I think that speaks well for his sensitivity to our mission and the House Concert Series.  Learning of his passing was a shock to all of us.  Nobody in our board knew his was 81 years old because he was so youthful in his appearance and demeanor. So we will miss him."

Funeral arrangements are pending.  AJ Cascio is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cathey.  AJ Cascio was 81 years old.
