Beverly Courtney Announces Run for Las Cruces City Council District 3

Beverly Courtney has officially announced her campaign for Las Cruces City Council District 3.  Courtney, a longtime resident of Las Cruces, moved to New Mexico in 1992 with her two children and one on the way, and her husband Robert. The past twenty years, Courtney has actively worked in a variety of civic organizations and local government.

I have lived and raised my family in District 3 for twenty-eight years and I am continually inspired by what I see: hardworking parents trying to make a better life for their children, teachers fighting to make a difference with each student, and our communities working together.

“Too often I hear that our children are not getting the resources they need and our families are suffering.  Unfortunately, what I have also seen is a local government that does not work for these families.  We have seen a lot of broken promises and career politicians more interested in spinning talking points than working for the people.  There are great people that live in my District and they deserve a representative that is looking to empower their community instead of pursuing a political ambition.  District 3 cannot afford another career politician,” said Courtney.

In a news release, Courtney pointed out three key issues that motivated her run for City Council District 3:  Ensuring that every child and every parent has access to the best educational platform that fits their needs, seeing traffic flow freely and creating a better infrastructure network, and finally, reducing the taxes and red tape that prevents our community from progressing.

“A big part of my childhood was the memory of my mother.  She raised me as a single mom.  I couldn’t, at the time, imagine the hardship – but she did teach me an important lesson that I never forgot: hard work pays off.  She had to raise us kids and taught us to believe we could all have a better future.  I carried that lesson with me and would like to carry it into this community.  I believe in District 3 and I believe in the families here. I am convinced if we support our community, we can empower our future together.

“Too often – teachers and parents work so hard with so little.  For example – I hear too often about parents spending way too much time in stop-and-go traffic, having to leave work early to ensure they pick up or drop off their children on time.

“Our change starts with the little things.

“I’d like to see families spending more time around the dinner table - not stuck in traffic.

“I refuse to make career politician type of promises – only create a system of accountability to New Mexicans.  This is not about my political ambitions but about the future we can create together for our children and our families.

“Our future begins now and it begins with us.

“This community deserves better – and again – it begins with the little things.  It begins with a representative that understands our day-to-day. It begins with understanding our struggle and being willing to fight for District 3 every day. It begins with someone that will ensure District 3 can progress as a community.

“We are upon a new change within our neighborhood – one were we can shift our future. I am proud of this community and proud to be a part of it.  It would be an honor to serve the residents of District 3 and I humbly ask for their support,” said Courtney.
