What Happens in Music Class?

What Happens in Music Class?

All students from Kindergarten to 4th grade have music class.   Lessons take place in the new music room located at the end of the K-1st hallway wing, past the office.

Kindergarten 1st and 2nd grade students have music twice a week while 3rd and 4th graders have class once a week.  Normally during a music lesson, students learn by singing songs, playing instruments, learning dances, playing games, describing music, and composing.  All Covid related safety protocols are in place.

Often, connections are made to what students are learning in other subjects, such as reading or math.  Sometimes, students study a historical time period or composer.  Other times, students learn about music from various cultures.  Occasionally, students are given assessments.

Every lesson aligns with Michigan music standards and our district music curriculum.
