YES ON 55!  Now tell 5 people you know to Vote Yes on 55.
BECAUSE OUR CHILDREN AND SCHOOLS MATTER MOST

**PROP 55 IS EXPECTED TO RAISE $8-11 BILLION A YEAR that will go directly into a special fund that SUPPORTS K-12 EDUCATION and community colleges.  By helping the state maintain and fund critical resources for public education, the measure also provides funding for other essential services like health care for low-income children and seniors.

**PROP 55 DOES NOT RAISE TAXES ON ANYONE; it simply maintains the current income tax rates on the wealthiest Californians.  Prop 55 contains strict accountability requirements to ensure funds designated for education go to classrooms, not to bureaucracy or administrative costs.

**Prop 55 PROTECTS OUR STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS from returning to the days of massive budget cuts, educator layoffs, furloughs, larger classes and tuition hikes.

During the recession, school districts were forced to lay off more than 30,000 teachers, implement multiple furlough days, increase class sizes, and eliminate programs like music and art.  Most of our public schools and colleges are just starting to come back from those cuts, and unless we pass Prop. 55 it is estimated that our schools will lose nearly $4 billion a year.  California is also facing a severe teacher shortage.  The state needs to hire more than an estimated 22,000 teachers this ear alone and there is still a need to hire school employees like library aides, bus drivers, and custodians.  Prop 55 does not raise taxes on anyone; the wealthiest will continue paying the same amount they are now to protect schools and other vital services from deep cuts.
