- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 March 2021This is the first book I've read from this author, and it won't be the last. Full of twists and turns.
After Tim, Grace's husband, died in a car accident, Grace was left to bring up her daughter, Riley, alone. Determined, with the help of her friend, Sherry, Grace eventually meets someone on line who has been through the same grief as she has and ends up marrying him. John, Grace's new husband, also has a son, Blake, a few years older than Riley.
Things turn sour when John gets another job which meant they had to travel and put their house up for sale. Stopping on route, and leaving Riley sleeping in the rented RV, John, Grace, and Blake, step out and make their way to get something to eat. They returned to the RV and drive off, thinking Riley is still sulking or sleeping in the back. A few miles further on, they realise that Riley is missing. All panic and hell is released as secrets begin to unfold in this unputdownable story. A must read.
5 stars from this happy reader.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 May 2021I only gave this book three stars as it certainly had loads of twists and turns in it, so many in fact that it was difficult to keep track. I've read quite a few of this author's books and enjoyed them but, for me, this one was a bit disappointing.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 October 2021The story unfolded at just the right places to keep you on the edge of your seat. Very well written.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 March 2021After a gripping start I found things slowed down and became a bit repetitive. I can understand many different agencies had to be involved in the search for Riley but there must have been at least forty different characters all mentioned by name so it was very hard to keep track of who was who. The story did pick up though and there were enough secrets, dead ends and twists to keep me gripped which more than made up for the negatives. My first book by this author and definitely not my last.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 August 2021Love the unpredictability of the stories, you think you've solved it then bang, another twist.
Buy it, read it, review it. Cheers Rick

5.0 out of 5 stars Super
Another good one by Rick Mofina. Well written and the story moved to a satisfying conclusion. I cannot read enough by this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of suspenseful secrets!
First of all, I want to thank myself for paying for the entire purchase.
Anyway , this is a great novel worth the read. I enjoyed the search and seek of looking for someone who disappeared on the highway to Las Vegas. The geographical locations are spot on. The behaviors and emotional toll on family and friends is very realistic. And, all the results of various law enforcement procedurals kept me on edge to the very end.

I couldn't put this book down. So many twists and turns .I second guessed myself all the way. Can't wait to read more from this author.

2.0 out of 5 stars 80 % is like watching paint dry
I guess I am one of the few who did not enjoy this book. For me, it was like watching paint dry. While I do usually enjoy police procedurals, this one went to great lengths to let the reader in on EVERYthing the police were doing to look for the missing teenage girl. I have never ever read that much detail, and now I also know that I do not enjoy, nor do I care for it.
Every time I thought that surely all avenues must have been explored now, there came along another "helpful" clue designed exclusively, it seemed, to move the story along which otherwise had nowhere to go.
Spolier alert (don't continue reading if you don't want to know):
In the end the author (whom I normally like) even came up with the body of a dead teenage girl found in the desert, but guess what? It's not the missing girl! Despite very similar clothes and - major clue! - not wearing any shoes. Come on now - is the desert littered with bodies of dead female teenagers in white t-shirts not wearing shoes?!
The ending is improbable and way over the top. That the marriage of the protagonists ends in a "trial separation" is unsatisfying at best. I honestly have no idea what Rick Mofina was hoping to accomplish with this book. Reader satisfaction it cannot have been (at least not mine).

4.0 out of 5 stars A page turner! Well done
First time reader of a Rick Mofina story. Pleased to report I'll be looking for further writings by this author. Interesting to see if what I considered as a high standard will be repeated.
