Thanks to Kelly Erickson, Owner and Creative Director of VisionPoints, for including Identity Crisis! on her Summer Is a Great Time to Read a Book list. Her 10 suggested beach reads appeared on the Maximum Customer Experience Blog.
Erickson writes: This book will set you back a bit more than the others on this list but not too much for this colorful, real-life-example packed classic. After youve read the book, applied all the lessons, and become a fan, youll want to visit Jeffs LogoMotives blog, where you can also click through his wonderful portfolio. Elge Premeau, the eMarketing Strategist, writes on her My Travels on the Net blog about my use of social networking to market my book Identity Crisis!: 50 Redesigns That Transformed Stale Identities Into Successful Brands. Read about it in her post Case Study: How Social Networking Can Sell Books.
Elge and I recently met at a Portland biznik event. biznik is an online and "real world" social network with the tagline "Business Networking That Doesn't Suck." We soon found ourselves members of a panel, with two additional "biznikers," for a discussion on social networking to be presented at a Self-Employed Creative Professionals (SECP) event. For the SECP discussion, "Harnessing the Power of Online Social Networks," I was given the assignment of introducing social networking and social media as marketing tools from the perspective of an author. In doing so, I presented the event attendees with a handout listing the wide variety of such resources used to promote Identity Crisis! and have since posted that information on bLog-oMotives. The design industry web presence Design Dump just posted a review of Identity Crisis: 50 Redesigns That Transformed Stale Identities into Successful Brands on their site. The review states:What a great book! If you're a graphic designer, and love logo/identity design, then you'll indeed enjoy this book. Who doesn't love to see the "Before and After", then perform their own critiques. This book is also a great resource for getting new fresh ideas for successful identity systems. And wait...Yes, it's hardbound. A nice touch. Another great book by Jeff Fisher of LogoMotives Thanks for the mention! In the upcoming issue of Designer, the magazine of the University and College Designers Association (UCDA), editor Kirsten Ruby takes a look at the book Identity Crisis! 50 Redesigns That Transformed Stale Identities Into Successful Brands in her The Designer's Bookshelf column. Ruby writes: If browsing before-and-after logo designs fascinates you (and it does most designers), Identity Crisis! should be just what you need for a creative boost. UCDA Designer magazine advisory board member Jeff Fisher explores 50 logos from colleges, universities, restaurants, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and foundations, and shares the detailed creative background about each. The old and new identities are dissected and discussed, and Fisher provides eaxamples of the new logos as stand-alone art and in application. Especially interesting are the descriptions of the redesign process from both the clients and designers' perspectives. "Identity Crisis!" - - a "best logo design resource"
