Ramadan Mubarak!

The Muslim Life Program at the Yale Chaplain's Office and Chaplain Omer Bajwa invite you this year's magnificent Ramadan Banquet and Iftar. In keeping with tradition, we will be celebrating this holy month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. Join us for this much anticipated celebration!

This year we are honored to welcome Academy Award nominated Director Joshua Seftel who will be screening and speaking about his critically acclaimed film STRANGER AT THE GATE, which was nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 2023 Oscars.

In the film, an Afghan refugee named Bibi Bahrami – and the members of her little Indiana mosque – come face to face with a U.S. Marine who has secret plans to bomb their community center. But Mac McKinney's plan takes an unexpected turn. 'STRANGER AT THE GATE' is a story of grace, transformation, and hope. Malala Yousufzai is the Executive Producer of the film. The film features Yale alumnus Zaki Bahrami and his incredible parents.

Joshua Seftel will be in conversation about the film in a pre-iftar screening and panel discussion. Not to be missed!

With special thanks to the Poynter Fellowship for their generous support.
Food Provided (There will be a celebratory halal meal served at this event catered by Punjabi Kadai Restaurant. )

For the past 8 years, Joshua Seftel has been using filmmaking to combat Islamophobia with his Emmy and Peabody-nominated series of short documentaries SECRET LIFE OF MUSLIMS (SXSW). STRANGER AT THE GATE is the latest documentary short in his efforts. Seftel, who faced anti-Semitism as a child, has been deeply connected and committed to this subject matter.

His previous films include TAKING ON THE KENNEDYS (POV), WAR INC (Tribeca), THE HOME TEAM (SXSW), and THE MANY SAD FATES OF MR. TOLEDANO (NYT Op-Docs, IDA Award Winner).
