Bald For Beautiful
‘True beauty is reflected by your heart, not by a mirror.’
November 1, 2014 I will be SHAVING my head BALD! I want to raise funds for the GIRLS LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS of the YWCA Edmonton, a charity helping our young girls develop into confident, healthy, SELF-LOVING women who actively take part in the creation of their own lives as well as their community.
Who I am
My name is Katherine Trimarco and like most women who grew up in this day and age, I have spent the majority of my 25 years struggling to love, accept, and be happy with who I am. I believe that as females, we are especially bombarded with images and ideals of who we should be, what we should look like, and how we should behave from the time we are old enough to open our eyes and absorb the world around us.
What is the Issue?
Young girls are facing an increasingly difficult journey into adulthood. When they start school they are more likely than boys to do well at school; however as time goes on their advantage is reduced by two societal factors – high rates of sexual assault and a sharp decline in mental health.
The challenges the typical 14 year old girl faced 20 years ago are the challenges faced by 9 year old girls today. As girls enter adolescence, their confidence declines sharply and they experience higher rates of depression. Shockingly, only 1 girl in 5 believes she has what it takes to lead[1]
Why the YWCA?
YWCA Edmonton’s vision is “Women shaping a world of equality, opportunity and choice.” they believe that in order for women to attain this vision, they need to get the best start possible. So they offer free empowerment and leadership programs that address head-on the tough decisions girls are being faced with while providing resources and candid, accurate information.
But the YWCA needs funds to expand their current programs and to develop new ones for our young women. It is my highest hope that with the assistance of people like you, such a goal can be obtained.

Sponsor Benefits
As a hairstylist, I will be posting signage around the salon and will be talking to dozens of clients and customers that we see each week about the project and those who are supporting it. I will be using my large social media network to spread the word of my campaign for months leading up to the event where many will come to witness the head shave. My goal is to also secure some interviews on local television where I will make every effort to thank sponsors and those businesses that contributed silent auction items.
Why I Want to Do This
I feel extremely passionate about developing the minds and hearts of the generation of our young girls in an effort to build their self-esteem, self-love, and body image. Giving these girls the tools to go out into the world, confident as who they are, to create not only an empowering life for themselves, but to also become positive leaders within their community.
Your Support is Critical
Please help me make a difference in the lives of these young girls, so they can grow up to feel confident, loved, and accepted by themselves and the world around them. Help the YWCA build healthy, strong young women leaders who will go out into the community to make a change for the better in our local surroundings and in society as a whole.
Your support is greatly appreciated by me, the staff and volunteers at the YWCA Edmonton, and most importantly by the girls whose lives will be bettered through your contribution.
