  1. Shadwell in Bloom March2022The recent (third) break-in of the SPC Shed near the Scout Huthas led to serious losses of equipment that SIB routinely usedboth for group and individual activities. Our pair of cordless Viking mowers and a much used petrol mower were taken and are to be replaced at least initially via three Victa mowers after their full service via Steve Bumby. The SPC Victa self propelled mower currently in use at Shadwell Cricket Club is to be returned for village use. Our strimmers (and my own) were all taken and are temporarily replaced by a Hyundai composite product which being petrol driven will greatly increase noise levels over the cordless counterparts. There is some discussion as to whether the Hyundai items would be much less favoured by our shed thieves because of very low price and less status than Stihl products! We have adequate hedgecutters (including cordless) still availablefor our current tasks of cutting/tidying around the village. The latter has so far dealt with the Cricketers hedge and the No 1 Main Street problem reported (twice, patience!) to SPC and also the hedges from the Village Hall to the Bus Terminus and beyond. The latter are necessary both for public access and to keep the verges easily mowable for the year. The Village Hall and School hedgeswill be reduced shortly to at least prevent problems to cyclists and other road users. The Tennis Club ginnel has been tidied up and that from the Churchyard to Ash Hill Gardens will be similarly treated.SIB will keep fully active of courseand here SPC has kindly authorized the purchase of 3 Stihl batteries to allow full use of the currently still available items. Howard Wilkinson of Shadwell Scouts and our Lengthman Peter Hallas have now returned the security of the storage shed to a reasonable level including some repairs to the alarm system as needed. SIB has asked Howard to consider floodlighting the shed doors from the Scout Hut to make CCTV more certain. Our attendance at Tuesday café openingsat the Methodist Church and Shadwell Librarywillcertainly continue as this givesopportunities for anyone to come and discuss SIB matterswith our group volunteers. The SIB website (www.shadwellinbloom.com) has been updatedwith the latest information including links to the SIB reports as given here. Donations from Friends of Shadwell in Bloom in 2021 have roughly matched earlier years and in 2022 similar efforts of fund raising will continuefrom our now ready FOSIB Donation forms. These are scheduled for delivery along with the current SPC Newsletter in the near future. Please also read the SIB Report by Debbie Potter in each Shadwell News for how to join us.Norman Taylor(with Debbie Potter)Chair SIB
