RSVP for December 7 Forum on Proposed Bylaw
Please fill in the information below to receive a Zoom link to this event at 7PM on Tuesday, December 7.

The Acton Historical Commission is seeking to draft a bylaw to better preserve and protect  archaeologically significant resources within the Town. The Commission has been working with Town staff, Town Counsel, and a variety of stakeholders to produce the draft. This forum will discuss progress to date and is an opportunity for wider public input.  The goal is to present the draft at the Acton Town Meeting in May, 2022.

The goal of the bylaw is "to avoid, minimize or mitigate possible harm to such resources and remains, and to encourage owners and developers of property within the Town to consider less disruptive alternatives when developing or redeveloping property in archaeologically sensitive areas.  Archaeologically significant resources and remains are fragile and non-renewable features that embody the significant cultural heritage of the Town and provide a material record to understand and explain the Town’s history, and thereby enrich and enhance the Town’s quality of life".   We are fortunate that Acton is located in an unusually rich region of Native American artifacts, and is also home to many colonial and early American resources.
