Needs Statement

Updating practicing physicians and other health professionals in both the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and liver diseases/conditions is essential to providing quality care leading to improved patient outcomes. The goal of this activity is to review current as well as emerging medical therapies and to outline the most effective ways to integrate this information into clinical practice.

Target Audience

Gastroenterologists, hepatologists, internists, primary care physicians, nurses, physician assistants, medical trainees and students.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Identify and understand different types of esophageal diverticulums and how to treat them
  • Discuss the diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis based on available laboratory and endoscopic ultrasound criteria and how to prevent complications in patients with chronic pancreatitis
  • Summarize the new treatments available for NAFLD and how to prevent progression to cirrhosis
  • Outline how to diagnose microscopic colitis and prescribe the appropriate treatment for the condition
  • Implement the recommended surveillance for patients with gastric intestinal metaplasia, as well as suitable management strategies based on patient’s race

Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.
