When I wrote my first book on artificial intelligence, Essentials of AI for Beginners, my goal was simple: to make artificial intelligence approachable, practical, and useful for anyone, no matter their background. But as AI rapidly evolves, one area has taken center stage—generative AI.

But along with the excitement, I saw hesitancy and even fear. Many people want to harness AI's potential but don't know where to start. Others feel overwhelmed by jargon, concerned about misinformation, or unsure how AI will impact their personal lives and careers.

That's why I wrote Generative AI Basics & Beyond—to simplify the learning process, break down complex concepts with clarity, and provide a hands-on guide that takes you from a beginner to a confident user.

Writing This Book: My Experience

While exploring generative AI for my own work, I quickly realized two things: first, these tools are incredibly powerful; second, most people aren't using them to their full potential. I saw firsthand how AI can improve workflow, enhance creativity, and open up new career opportunities—but I also recognized the challenges. Since we have started to work with ai at work, I am really trying to get up to date with ai and therefore read a lot of books about the theme. I liked this book, because it gives many different aspects about ai. I especially liked the chapter about prompting, because it does not give you finished prompts you can use, like in other books, but you learn how to create your own prompts.

The tables are clear and concise, helping us to be aware and vigilant when using or consuming AI content. I liked how the author included real-world business applications, my favourite ones were the virtual reconstruction of a renown temple in Algeria and the AI chatbots for refugees. Overall, a great resource to help us navigate in this AI era, with a balanced view on the risks while empowering us to leverage our day-to-day work.
