Do we have any members in OSLO up for a Drink/Meal May 30?

Post by Global Admin »

We fly in to Oslo Norway from Dublin arriving 4.30pm and have a few hours free that afternoon/evening, before a flight next morning to Copenhagen, and then off to a week in the remote Faroe Islands, then a week in Scotland before heading back or Dublin.

As usual doing everything last second, and have just discovered all hotels in Oslo, even 2 Star flophouses, cost more than the Presidential Suite Waldorf Astoria in New York for some reason that night - must be a convention on or something. Always our luck!

We have had friendly stampboards get-togethers all over the globe on 4 or 5 continents so far, as you can see -

We will probably rent a car for our few hours and will stay near airport as we have a 6am flight out.

Anyone about - please touch base! If anyone know of any Norway members among our ranks, please send them this link!

(p.s. we seem to have a lot of members in Scotland - if anyone is around Edinburgh Sunday June 4, in the evening, or late Sat afternoon/evening June 10 - please touch base! We will be at the Doubletree Hilton Airport.

Caught up yesterday with Ottar - OttoSaa and his friend the downtown stamp dealer, Geir Brunsæl who runs the large stamp shop Brunsæl Frimerkeforretning, situated in Arendals gata 14 in central Oslo.

Being summer here, it is light until about midnight.

They kindly drive the vast distance from city - 50km or so, collected us at our World's most expensive airport Hotel room, and drove us back to Oslo, through Oslo and up into the foothills where the Olympic Ski Jump was for the Winter Olympics here. MASSIVE!

Then for a lovely dinner in a restaurant with a view of the city - where I ordered Reindeer and Elk meat, which are both common here.

Then a walk around the quite massive "Nude Park", with quite stunning granite statues, and later a walk around their huge new Opera House built on the Harbor.

Then a visit at 11pm to Geir's large stamp shop in Oslo - he has a huge basement level with a 1 ton safe door etc, and rooms of albums and full collections, which is his main business.

Ottar and Geir then kindly drove us back to the Hotel at 12.30am, and we had 3 hours sleep before our early dawn flight today to Copenhagen, and then the Faroes. :)

Great guys, and thanks again for their hospitality. Geir sells mainly British Commonwealth (oddly for here!) and I tried to talk him into registering www.Brunsael.com so that everyone can access his interesting offers.

He already does detailed catalogues, with 100s of images, but MAILS them all over Norway, and adding that existing data to a website is a cinch.

Time will tell. :)

Thanks, sure would have been nice to meet.

Unfortunately I live quite some distance from Oslo. Understand you have had a good time although may be a bit expensive.

We "locals" do not really think that much about it, guess we somehow get used to it.

Hi, Glen and Margo,

It was very nice to meet you both in person - hope that it will be possible for you to come again, and for a longer stay.

Hope that you have a wonderful trip to Faeroes and Scotland.

Best regards from Geir and I.
