Toms River Regional Schools was recently awarded a third year of a major grant from the Office of Naval Research to implement new units and activities for secondary staff and students in the area of computer programming, or coding. Students entering grades 6-12 in September 2020 are invited to apply to participate in a free coding boot camp being held virtually. Coding languages and their applications will be offered. Students will learn the basics of their chosen coding language, create a working product, learn about associated careers, and apply code to address real-world issues.

IN ADDITION, we are pleased this year to offer a weekend hackathon from November 20-22. There will be a kickoff on Tuesday, October 6, pick a language by Friday, October 9 and participate in a six-week coding Bootcamp. This will be followed by an open to all hackathon solving the world’s problems around the clock from Friday, 11/20 at 3 pm -Sunday 11/22. Pitch your best idea, prototype your solution, and even better if it actually works!!!

THESE WORKSHOPS ARE DESIGNED FOR ANY STUDENT OF ANY BACKGROUND! You do not have to have any knowledge of advanced math or computer science. TechReady is an opportunity to see what's amazing about coding and to challenge yourself to discover a new and possibly career-building interest.

Space is limited to 25 per class and students will be selected at random from all applicants. Selected students will be expected to attend every day Bootcamp is in session.  Cool incentives offered.  

Sign up to participate in one of two virtual information sessions: Kickoff Tuesday, October 6 at 2:45 pm and Tuesday, October 6 at 5:30 pm.  Meet the Bootcamp Leaders, learn about the design challenges, and participate in a fun activity!  Family teams are also welcome and encouraged to participate!  Team sign-ups will open Tuesday, October 6 following the kickoff!
