A researcher will contact you in 12-48 hours with a link to the follow-up survey. To prepare to take this survey, we ask that you pay close attention to your and your child’s language in the next day or two. Also, it might be helpful to look through any documentation you have about your child’s language (e.g., a baby book or some other place where you have documented moments of your child’s life, home videos, or any classwork done by your child).

First, we would like you to think about question-asking interactions that you and others have with your child. Keep in mind that questions can be as simple as looking at an object and saying “huh?” with a rising intonation! Think about:

What kinds of questions do you ask your child?
What kinds of questions does your child ask you? Does he/she use question words, such as “what” or “where”? Does he/she ask questions that can be answered with “yes” or “no”?
Does your child often ask questions for specific purposes? What topics does your child ask the most questions about?
How often does your child ask questions? What percentage of your child’s speech takes the form of a question? It may be helpful to count or record the number of questions your child asks in a typical hour with you, as we will be asking for estimates.

Next, we would like you to think about the pronouns used by your child and when these pronouns developed as a part of your child’s speech. Some of these pronouns we are interested include: I, you, he, she, his, hers, their, us, ours, it, and its. Some questions to think about are:

Does your child use pronouns when communicating with others?
What pronouns does your child use properly?
How frequent are these different pronouns used properly?
When did your child start using the pronouns in her vocabulary?
