Cycle 80km everyday in November · 1 November 2023

MHA provides nurturing environments throughout all our specialist care homes, thriving retirement living and vibrant communities. Our mission is to reduce loneliness in every stage of later life through enriching experiences that enable older people to live later life well.

Story

So folks I’ve set myself a challenge for a cause I believe in. I’ll try to keep it short. As we all know getting old or knowing a loved one who is no longer safe to care for themselves, is unfortunately a part of life, and seeing them frail in all walks of life and age is tough to see. Care homes are needed to give that true care. MHA can give that in all homes across the country in all aspects of care needed. Whether that be nursing care, dementia care or residential care. A link will be provided to see the history of MHA.

One of MHA’s homes is Swallow Wood based in Mexborough.

Swallow Wood Care Home is a 37 bedded Nursing Home.

They have a very diverse group of residents with varying nursing and care needs.

Many of their residents are not able to go on day trips due to being nursed in bed or mobility issues where they cannot use a standard wheelchair to travel in.

They offer a range of activities in the home to keep residents entertained. This includes regular quizzes, chair exercises, Bingo, Bowling, Therapy dog visits, magicians, singers etc.

They are wanting to enhance the residents bygone experiences by utilising technology that is available for them to relive their happy memories, enhancing their mental well being.

They would love to have a tiny tablet in the home for their residents to be able to achieve this.

Not only would this improve residents well-being but also provide stimulation in a new way.

So with the challenge in mind and coinciding in the 80 years of MHA providing the necessary care.

I will be cycling 80km a day for the entire month of November (50 miles in old money) and if that wasn’t enough to complete I will also be covering 80,000ftelevation in the month. Most of the kilometres will be covered on a smart bike in the garage during the week, mainly because the dreaded work has to be done first. Weekends will be completed outside in the fresh November weather, unless it’s treacherous. I do know the cost of living and Christmas is on the horizon it’s not easy just to donate. So any donations if possible will be greatly appreciated to help people Live Later Life Well. Thank you
