LED Stamp Magnifier 10 power, WITH measuring Grid, AND classy case $A45
I get asked all the time by clients for recommendations for a reliable stamp magnifier.
I ask them what they are now using, and 95% tell me they’ve been using one of these old-fashioned relics since they were a kid –
Pretty much HOPELESS really, in 2022!
Those antiques only have 2-3 power magnification, and at night-time are pretty much useless. As if the room light is low, that is what you are using to magnify through, and peer dimly at your stamps through.
It is 2022, and modern technology is here thank goodness, and these Century plus old style magnifiers should go in the same bin as stamp hinges, and opaque manila stock-pages!
The "Lighthouse" of Germany agent recently showed me these new state of the art, bright white LED light types he had, and I sourced some. Even at 10pm on a dark night, they bathe the stamp you are examining in bright clear white LED lights.
TEN power magnification is a heap more than most old hand held magnifying glasses.
Stamp and Coin collectors are mostly retirement age plus. Our eyesight gets worse as we get older, and a reliable and powerful and BRIGHT magnifier is 105% essential.
The THREE evenly spaced very bright LED lights are lighting up ALL of the stamp you are examining. Powered by 2 x common AA batteries, that last "forever". It is THE most essential object in any stamp Den, next to tweezers/tongs.
Comes in a beautiful and classy rigid style, tailored and zippered, black storage/travel case, to keep dust off, and protect against damage, and with cleaning cloth, yet is still small and compact enough to readily take to stamp shows, or auction viewings etc.

ESSENTIAL for when the catalogue says an overprint 5mm high is worth only $x, and one 5½mm or 6mm high is worth 10 times that. Like the "GRI" overprints, and HEAPS of other countries etc.
Have you EVER been able to accurately measure HALF A MILLIMETER with a domestic tape measure or ruler??!! It is totally IMPOSSIBLE. Here, you place this magnifier over the stamp, and at TEN times bathed in bright light magnification, with the built in measurer grid laid right over the overprint, and you have a 105% PRECISE answer.
One half decent overprint or surcharge identified using this new product, will pay for it many times over. 8)
The low values GRI come with 5mm high and 6mm high GRI o/ps. The 1d on 3PF is Cat £100 and £3,500. The next value 1d on 5PF is cat £80 or £3500 etc. To the naked eye these all appear identical. I found a SG64d in a junk lot last month, and sold it for $2,500. It was only $50 retail had I not been able to check accurately. "Knowledge Is Power".
Or for checking small constant plate varieties, and re-entries, and retouches etc. You MUST have a bright light TEN power glass for those.
I USE MINE SEVERAL TIMES EVERY DAY.
Best of all, like most collectors and dealers, I wear spectacles. MOST powerful magnifiers do not work when I look using my glasses. With this one it DOES work clearly and sharply which saves time and hassle.
