Pretty much everyone still struggles with how to know what’s really true about what constitutes a healthy life. And many struggle to some degree with applying what they do know. Pretty much everyone wants to feel in command of this—and confident that there is a streamlined base of practices and habits that really DO reliably boost our odds for a long and healthy life.
People want to feel like healthy living can be joyful and easy and delicious. And most aren’t effectively told or shown how.

We need to dismantle the myth that “it’s still unclear and we don’t really know what to do.” It’s not unclear—and real people who are making this work need to transmit this to other people. "The experts" have the facts—but statistics and costs (and likely your own experience!) show they're not connecting with PEOPLE.
While well-meaning, you might have noticed that health authorities are mostly failing to effectively inform and inspire people about the power we hold over our health and aging destiny.
Their grim, clinical, dry, negative, presumptive, reductive and sometimes condescending delivery is reinforcing the very resistance they lament. They assume people won't do or like healthy things. And then fret when people in fact don't. (My fitness-trainer manual mentions "adherence" and "compliance" several dozen times. Need I say more?)
No matter how much science establishes about lifestyle, and about how some populations DO achieve super-healthy longevity—that info never seems to permeate very far into culture. What does trickle down is presented so mockingly, boringly, obfuscatingly or cynically that people just don't get it, or act on it, or enjoy it.

I've been watching for over 20 years, and people are still struggling with the same issues I saw as a young author more than two decades ago. There is still SO much confusion and defeatism. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, arthritis, dementia and other conditions continue to cripple people—and earlier.
Less dramatic but even more widespread miseries like low energy, digestive distress, chronic pain, and poor immunity impact people’s lives daily—sapping joy and productivity, robbing us all of their best.
And the anticipatory dread of aging and disease is also crippling, along with frustration and shame about not having this “handled.”
Volumes of research exist to point us to the high-impact essentials, yet so much “reasonable doubt” is created that people continue to accept the stance of helpless victim.
There is arguably more suffering in this area of life (from disease and pain to distraction, discouragement and obsession) than any other. It’s so painful to see this. Because when healthy living is shared in a way that works, that suffering and loss can be prevented.
That "sharing" is what I do. And it's what NOURISHED will do for a much bigger audience.

I hope for this campaign's funds to help cover a minimum 2 months of working on the book exclusively. This allows me to fully take time off from freelance writing, health coaching, music and other paying work to focus fully on the book and get it done!
The more time off I can totally focus on the book, the faster I will get it done. And the more of an "advance" I have, the more such time I have.

STRETCH GOALS - I'll be extremely grateful to make my base goal. But if I exceed it, that will cover additional time to work on the book (which I may need)...and after that, publishing and promotion. As an editor and artist, I can do cover art, copyediting and at least some of the marketing, but (a) I still have to pay myself :) and (b) I will still need consultants for some of this. To launch the book in a BIG way will take big help, and that would serve more people with my message.
I would love for this book to be as or even more successful than my first one was 20 years ago—to impact hundreds of thousands of people with my unique brand of inspiration and information about how to integrate radical self-care into their lives....for a level of health, fitness, energy, and ease that fuels their own contributions.

MY TRACK RECORD
- I have a successful track record with crowdfunding. I funded my last CD to the tune of $10,000. (Although I fell a bit shy of my goal over at Kickstarter, 99% of my supporters chose to support me in full via Paypal anyway!) I did complete the CD, of course, which came out at the end of 2014.

I get things done: I have published two books with a major publisher(Warner Books) and produced three CDs of original material. My major magazine articles have been published throughout my life, starting at age 16. I wrote 15 journalistic pieces about the primary elections in the past few months—in spite of a full load of freelance writing, schoolwork (I'm getting some trainer certifications), other volunteering, and music. (Obviously, I have a lot of capacity—it's all the healthy living! :) With your help, however, I will be able to earmark a few months of completely focused time to deliver this book into the world.)

Certainly any number of life events, including unforeseen illness or injury in myself or family (heaven forbid!) could delay the completion of this book. But as my track record shows (see above) I do get projects done. So even if unforeseen circumstances did occur, the book will still get done and you would get your perks and your book(s).This book is happening!
