Greetings!
My name is Randall. I am Stargeek because in 2001 the only link I could get to the internet was via Starband, an EchoStar service. Thank goodness those days are gone!
I began collecting stamps at the age of eight. My stamp collection has been gathering dust for over 40 years. Then I inherited my Grandfather's collection. My Grandfather was a rural route carrier in Oklahoma in the 1930s through 1950s. His collection consists of approx. 900 plate blocks from the 60s and 70s. My own collection is mostly stamps from all over the world.
Suddenly I am back into stamp collecting. I have already inventoried my Grandfather's stamps. Now on to my personal collection. I am running into stamps that I cannot identify or precisely identify and this has lead me to this forum. I am looking forward to all your comments and camaraderie!

Welcome Randall! Looks like I don't live that far from you . Gatesville, TX(near Waco) to Fort Worth, TX. I have recently stumbled upon my dad's collection of stamps and am reading his stamp collecting handbook from Samuel Grossman in 1957 and looking through his old stamps.

Welcome yuriy131,
The stamp in question is a Mexican Revenue (fiscal stamp) and would not be listed in any standard catalogues. Start a new thread on that stamp, and you'll soon have more info.

Hi. My name is John. 61 years of age.
I have been collecting stamps from around 1961.
I think each decade is different
1960s...The SchoolBoy Years....stamp collecting was buying packets of stamps at Woolworths Counters. The World...space stamps from the old Soviet Bloc, Half cent stamps from the Pacific Islands and West Indies.
1970s...The Young Adult Years. deciding to concentrate on Ireland but still collecting the World.
1980s ...The Mature Years...gaining a certain expertise in Ireland and regretting the fact that I had made some mistakes with collecting in the 1970s...and dropping the rest of the world.
1990s...The Disappointing Years culminating in just too many issues and the feeling that I was being exploited as a collector.
Gave up collecting at end of 2000.
2000s...The Wilderness Years.
10th March 2012. Decided to start collecting again.
Essentially Collecting is now two things.
The serious side... Ireland.
The fun side..... Rest of the World.
Thanks for reading this,
John

Welcome FitzjamesHorse,
That's a really clever way of looking at the years of collecting John, so true.
Just did a search and there are 77 topics with Ireland in the heading, not sure about in the posts themselves, probably too many.
Try doing a search and see if you find something of interest on Ireland, if not, start a topic.
Look forward to your posts (and topics ).
Cheers....

Re: Hello All NEW Members - please briefly introduce yoursel
Hi all,
My name is Tom and I have been collecting stamps since about 2010.
I also collect Canada and United States coins, which is how collecting stamps got started.
The United States, state park quarter was in a set with both mints and two stamps.
I knew about the coin but had no clue about the stamp.
So I went investigating and got hooked on stamp collecting.
As far as what I collect, well Stamps.
I have no favorite after of course United States stamps.
I am slow with mounting them into albums because I research my stamps, yes all of them.
I have a nice size collection of Cuba, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics {USSR}, Vietnam which I am currently working on. I also have bags of Australia, New Zealand, and England I still need to go through.
My goal is to have at least one stamp from every country that has then and now issued one.
I have learned so much from people in the stamp world, I want to help with what ever I know to help others.
As far as selling or trading my duplicates, again people in the stamp world have been so kind to me I could not with a clear conscious sell any of my duplicate stamps.
I feel if you need it and I can help it is yours.

David Cordon in Bermuda.
I collect ALL aspects of Bermuda philately from pre QV postal history to QEII printings and flaws.
I am a member of the Bermuda Collectors Society, BCPSG, BWISC, APS and Royal. Also am a co-editor of the Bermuda Specialized Catalogue - blame me for errors in pricing.
I have started exhibiting and the current ones are a OFE "Bermuda Docks Issue" and a 5 frame "Study of Bermuda KGV key-plates".
Always happy to help when/where I can but may also need to advise on the exhibiting side.

Well hi all. The breath and spread of all things stamps is amazing.
I collect all Australia but especially roos. The more I look into them the more complex it becomes. Happy to look and learn a lot more.
Started in the early 60's with my nose up against the window of Bexley Stamps. Often still looking longingly at many stamps!
Ken.

Hi all. New member, just joined. I should probably start out by saying that I don't consider myself a real philatelist as I collect skiing stamps, but am branching out a bit into Chamonix postal history. I hope to learn a lot from the forum! My first desire is to know what the catalogue value of this stamp is! Hungary 1925 Imperf, Michel 404.

Welcome tamskinner,
You could start a topic for the skiing stamps if there is not one already (use the Search to find any topic).
To find out about your Hungary 1925 Imperf, ask on the 'You ask the questions - SOMEONE will have the answers!' topic but be sure to include an image of the stamp for the best replies.

Thanks

Re: Hello All NEW Members - please briefly introduce yoursel
Hello all, my name is Eric and I'm from Bismarck, ND. I am 37 years old and managed to find my old childhood stamp collection 2 years ago while unpacking when I moved into a new house. Since then, I jumped crazily back into the hobby.
I have a wide variety of interests. Overall I am working on a worldwide collection (yeah...I know)... If it's a stamp - I keep it. I house everything in Vario stock pages and binders.
I have a decent US collection, and a nice collection of the Columbian issues and their postmarks. I have an interest in Penny Blacks and have acquired 7 of them so far.
My worldwide collection is basically progressing through the countries in letter order. I probably have about 150,000 stamps sorted by country in envelopes and plastic sleeve binders, and am working to mount them in my stock pages. I am still on the "A and B countries...lol". I also track my collection by (usually) Scott Number, and use other catalogs for reference.
I love varieties and if the stamp seems different, I put it in the stockbook and note it. Regardless of whether or not a catalog tells me that it is a variety.
I have a weird interest in Albania, and specifically 2 sets of Cinderalla issues. The "Mirdite" issues and the "Committee of the Resistance" issues. I have, what I think, a pretty thorough collection of these bogus issues of which there are many varieties.
Anyway - I am a member of SCF and thought I would join this group as well.
Thanks,
Eric

I first started collecting as a child when i was allowed to see my fathers collection. My interest lasted for a few years and was forgotten about until my own son was old enough to be interested. His interest lasted about a year, but by then i was hooked again
I've now been collecting solidly for the last 8 years, and have quite an extensive British collection. I inherited my fathers collection a few years back sadly on his passing, and it takes pride of place within my Kings album.

Welcome BlackSwanns,
Glad to see you got back in to the collecting, as many of us do (I'd like a $ for everyone that has said that ).
Please join in on the discussions and post some of your collection when you have the time, oh, and the Search at the top of the page will save lots of time looking for certain topics/posts.
Cheers....

Re: Hello All NEW Members - please briefly introduce yoursel
Hello all,
I was a stamp collector up until my thirties but drifted away from the hobby until recently when I inherited part of my family stamp collection dating back over 100 years started by my great grandfather. This has got me enthused again so I will probably be asking many questions/advice from members here as I attempt to sort things out.
Regards,

Welcome, natcap. Here was I thinking that my collection was cool at 65 years old. You have just blown that away. More than 100 years is definitely venerable. Of course, I did all of those years myself....

Re: Hello All NEW Members - please briefly introduce yoursel
Greetings to all from the Southeastern part of Oklahoma and just one of the purported homes of Bigfoot!
I purchased my first Scott's Specialized Catalogue in 1959 and had been collecting several years before that with an old Scott's International Album filled with stamps from all over the world which a neighbor had given me and packet mixtures from the local Woolworth's store, H.E. Harris, and others.
I soon gravitated to U.S. plate blocks, followed by U.S. stamps, and after several years of "filling in spaces", and having more philatelic questions than I did stamps, I started purchasing philatelic literature.
I continue to collect U.S. philatelic literature, but my interest for the past thirty plus years has been upgrading a ten frame philatelic exhibit titled U.S. Philately (An Overview) designed, both by its writeup and philatelic material, to introduce the viewer to the depth, breadth, and diversity of U.S. philately beginning with the British colonial embossed revenues of 1755.
That said it's both a fun exhibit, a serious collection, and the reason behind by collection of philatelic literature as it's easier to look something up than it would be to contact the American Philatelic Research Library on a daily basis for a book, which may or may not answer my questions.
I've been a member of the American Philatelic Society since 1969, and a longtime member of the U.S. Stamp Society, American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors, American Revenue Association, State Revenue Society and other organizations over the years.
I'm looking forward to both sharing and acquiring information on the site as I have the time.
Cheers,
E.J.
