Filipinos vs webcam child sex tourism

The Philippine Country Office of Terre des Hommes Netherlands has launched an online collection of signatures to compel the Philippine government to take a stand against webcam child sex tourism by delivering a public statement in an international gathering like the United Nations General Assembly or the United Nations Human Rights Council meeting condemning this new trend as well as refusing to tolerate the victimization of Filipino kids through this scheme.

Why the need for this statement?

Based on initial investigation conducted by Terre des Hommes, Filipino children seem to have an extraordinary appeal to both casual and hardcore pedophiles wanting to offer financial rewards to children forced to perform sexually in front of the camera. After trying several other nationalities, Terre des Hommes concluded that reception was overwhelming when Sweetie divulged her being Filipino.

By way of this petition, we, Filipinos, MUST urge the government, specifically the President of the Philippines and/or the Foreign Affairs Secretary, to declare that anti-sexual exploitation of children is the priority of the government and to warn the international community of its commitment to fight for the online protection of children. Webcam child sex tourism is a global problem; hence, global cooperation is needed. It is important that global leaders work hand-in-hand to approach the problem of online child exploitation head on. Once the statement is delivered, the global community will be made aware that as a matter of policy, the Philippine government will exert all efforts possible to stop the perpetration of online abuse and exploitation to our children. Now more than ever, we need a government whose concern for its youth is unquestionable.
