introduction

Our dedicated hand centre evolved in 2017, in recognition of the growing national and international consensus that acute hand injuries and chronic hand conditions require a different skill set that incorporates the knowledge and experience of both orthopaedic and plastic surgery.  In addition to seven consultant hand surgeons, the department is supported by three plastic surgeons with a sub-specialty background in soft tissue hand reconstruction, and one specialist hand surgeon.  We embrace the vision of working alongside dedicated hand therapists and allied heathcare professionals, inviting two extended scope practioners and a specialist hand nurse to join our outpatient clinic team.  The unit is involved in both regional and national research projects, and we regularly have medical students and doctors in training rotating through.

Within this website, you can learn more about our individual team members.  We have developed an online repository of written and multimedia resources, for patients to find out more information regarding problems they may face with their hands, along with instructions that may be useful prior to or following treatment of their hand conditions or injuries.
