Vampire Heat Kindle Edition
"Tall, Dark, and Deadly": Author Eloise Kern hopes actor Claude Darvell will produce and star in a vampire film she's written. She has no idea that not only does he play vampires onscreen, he is one, hiding in plain sight. Or that by falling in love with Claude, she becomes the target of a vengeful rival from his past.
"Night Flight": When young human-vampire hybrid Gillian begins her first estrus, her mentor assigns her a mate whom she can't stand. She flees for refuge to her human friend, Paul. When her need becomes irresistible, and lust quickly develops into love, how can a vampire and a mere mortal hope to form a permanent relationship?
"Heat in the Night": For vampires, mating serves a purely functional purpose, for reproduction, not emotional fulfillment. But a vampire brought up by human foster parents finds herself succumbing to that human weakness, falling in love with her closest friend. When the two of them share a tryst at her first estrus, she fears her true feelings will repel him.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2018I had not previously read a paranormal romance, being more of a historical romance gal. I came across this one by accident and thought I'd broaden my horizons a bit. I'm not going to describe the three stories (or one novella and a couple of stories) in any detail, as why spoil the surprise? Think vampires (the different species kind, not the animate corpse kind, which would be kind of icky), hot romance, and good characterization. There is a lot of sex, but that's true of most mainstream or historical romance novels now. Generally, I find the obligatory sex in romances tiresome (I write historical romance, myself, but without sex; I guess that dates me) but Margaret L. Carter does it well, and the sex is part of the plot, not the required-because-romance-novels-have-to-contain-sex thing. Her sex scenes actually are erotic. I'm not an expert on vampire fiction (this is almost the first I've read since Fred Saberhagen's amusing series in the 1970s-1980s), I think anyone who is ...ummm ... a vampire groupie might enjoy this.
