Democracy is in peril in the U.S. and around the world. A national poll of America’s 18- to 29-year-olds by the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School indicates that a majority of young Americans believe that our democracy is “in trouble” or “failing.” Further, despite increased youth voter turnout in recent elections, doubts and distrust of American democracy play a role in depressing the youth vote. The best way to tackle these very real concerns about the fragility of our imperfect democracy is to bring civic-minded young people together to shape a democracy you can trust.
In response, YVote is running several programs for high schoolers this summer--you can apply for one or several:
** Democracy Camp-- a week-long IN PERSON intensive that will run from Thurs, June 27 - Wed, July 3 from 11 AM-5 PM. You can read more about it at
https://yvoteny.org/democracy-camp/ ($250 stipend + Additional stipend for year-long Democracy Project)
** YVote ChangeMakers Summer Institute--a six-week IN PERSON program for up-and-coming high school leaders to join our cross-partisan, youth-driven civic engagement movement to make a positive difference in communities, at and beyond the ballot box. YVote will meet WEEKLY on Tuesdays, July 9-Aug 13 from 5:30-8:30 PM and convene for a full Day of Action on Saturday, Aug 3. ($250 stipend)
These programs will support you in building knowledge to support a youth wave in voting and civic engagement in NY and beyond, and to implement campaigns in your schools.
PLEASE NOTE: SUMMER APPLICATIONS HAVE CLOSED--CHECK BACK IN LATE AUGUST AND FOLLOW US on @YVOTENY FOR FALL OPPORTUNITIES
