Support Lily from Alice Salon in Paying Rent!

Donation protected

Small business owners in Los Angeles Chinatown have taken an especially hard hit due to the compounding effects of Covid-19, gentrification, and Sinophobia.

As of December 7th, 2020, the City of Los Angeles has  prohibited hair salons, barbershops, and other personal care services from opening again, without providing any needed financial support. Though the new restrictions are necessary for public health, the state's lack of support has left many small business owners feeling vulnerable.

Therefore, Lily is calling for community care.

Lily has been cutting hair in Chinatown since 2002 and came to own Alice Salon at 529 Alpine St. in 2018. Throughout her 18 years of cutting hair in Chinatown, Lily has formed meaningful relationships with community members across the lifespan--from children at Castelar Elementary who need haircuts for their school pictures, to elders who want to look their best for their birthday.

Not being able to open is particularly stressful to Lily as her landlord has refused to give her any rent reductions, even though business has fallen significantly and will now be non-existent with the new stay-at-home order.

Please take 2 minutes to learn about Lily's story by watching the video and then consider donating to support Lily in paying her rent!

*A CCED member organized this fundraiser and will distribute 100% of the funds to Lily!
