Over the past six months, Council's Cultural Development Team have been working on new opportunities to support Blue Mountains artists and creative people—including affordable work spaces, studios, and even performance laboratories. It's all part of our strategy to do more things that support local artists, creative people, and cultural projects. We've put together this form to make it easy to express interest in the projects we have in the works.
First up—open now—are the Braemar Creative Spaces, located in Springwood 's historic Braemar House (and just across the hall from our Braemar Gallery). Blue Mountains City Council has renovated three rooms, and we are now offering them to creative people as affordable day studios, project desks, or low-impact development space. The interior also includes toilets, kitchenette, WiFi, basic furnishings (as well as connections to the Springwood Library in back and Blue Mountains Theatre next door).
Our team are also working to develop additional creative spaces in the coming year—including opportunities and studios in the revitalised Katoomba Civic Arcade, a recycling-based artist residency at Council's Katoomba Resource Recovery & Waste Management Facility, and potential music rehearsal spaces in Blaxland. And for 2025, we are working to turn Wentworth Falls School of Arts into a laboratory for new stage work, performing arts residencies, and a readily accessible venue for Blue Mountains musicians, dancers, and theatre artists.
