Why this petition matters

Started by Ron Curry MBE

The Gaumont Palace Frieze was great for a Council photo opportunity but will they now list our Cinema Heritage?  sign this petition please.

Doncaster council now has a method in place for Local Listing but they need to include a public consultation phase for all recommendation made, but who is the Cinema Heritage decision maker? before these nominations can be signed off. To confirm - this first round includes the unique Trent Gaumont Palace Frieze.

The panels after the Gaumont was demolished (2008) were saved but stored un-protected from all elements or wilful damage first in a farmyard and later dumped in a local cemetery. Local people, the lead campaigner 'Let's go to the Pictures' with it's patron Mr Brian Blessed OBE all played a part in saving the Trent frieze. The panels are now properly displayed, we now want to get council to local list this precious piece of OUR cinema heritage.

Our petition goal now is to get recorded protection for this 33ft long 7 panel Art-deco sculpture depicting the story of a film from script to final completion, the art work from the Gaumont British Cinema era (formed in 1927) by sculptor Mr Newbury A Trent. This original 1934 Art-Deco period piece and possibly a national treasure artefact should be first Local Listed.

Just to let you know that Council have extended the deadline for any comment on the Trent Frieze Consultation period to 5pm Friday 24th March, so we will keep the petition open for longer.
