Guide Dogs say thank you!
Clitheroe Rotary awarded 'Guide Dogs' £1,000 in the President's year end donations. Representatives of the Guide Dogs charity visited RC Clitheroe and presented the club with a thank you certificate via President Robert.

Irwin 2023-24
I have lived in the Ribble Valley most of my life, I joined the Clitheroe Rotary in August 2008. I worked as a Police Officer in Lancashire Constabulary until 1999, followed by working for the NHS latterly as a Director, until 2019 when I retired. My work meant that I had to leave Clitheroe Rotary and was a member of Preston North, now known as Preston North and Longridge, as I could not attend during the day. In 2013, I was President of Longridge and returning to Clitheroe during Lockdown.
Clitheroe has always been a busy and well supported club with a healthy membership with a good range of activities and visits, in addition to being a service organisation centred on Clitheroe and the surrounding area. As the club demonstrated recently, with its support for the people of Ukraine, and with the Market stall collection of sewing machines, tools, IT equipment, mobile phones and spectacles, which are repurposed and sent abroad, we have showed our support for our international charities. Locally Rotarians have been supporting ecology by planting new trees and a commemoration garden in St Mary’s Churchyard to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.
Rotary is a very friendly organisation spread over the globe, working together to make it a better place to live, contributing to the Eradication of Polio, which has almost attained its goal with the help of Bill Gates. Locally the club is involved with Market Collections, the town bonfire, Wrap Up East Lancashire (collecting coats for winter), the Santa Collection, and new for this year a Santa Dash around the town, in conjunction with East Lancashire Hospital Charity. The aim being to provide items such as TVs for patients at Clitheroe Community Hospital. The club will be holding a Health Day on in May.
Our previous President Karin started the ball rolling to have Friends of Rotary, which will be for women and men who cannot afford the time to attend at lunchtime but want to get involved in the club’s programme. Or do you now work from home, giving you the opportunity to join a lunchtime meeting in Clitheroe?
I hope to continue Karin’s drive for this initiative during the next year. If you are interested, please contact me.
