Please RSVP below for the Herbert Denton Biography Project's Campus Kick-Off event on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. The event will be held at 4:00 at the UDC Student Center's Heritage Hall (Ground floor).
Herbert Denton Jr. was a pioneering journalist at The Washington Post. He was, among other things, the paper's first Black city editor, in charge of all coverage of the District of Columbia from 1976-1980.
Biographer Benji de la Piedra will introduce Denton's life, work, and times in DC, which include the early days of Federal City College and the first elected school board. He will also talk about the exciting opportunities presented by this project being housed at UDC for the next year and a half.
Bringing together UDC community members and Denton's former colleagues from The Washington Post, we will generate a compelling discussion of the life and legacy of this under-appreciated Washington history figure.
