**Update Nov. 22 @ 3 pm: With your support, we have met and exceeded our goal (including cash donations)! We have 9 days left of our crowdfunding campaign, and we still need support for the construction of our antenna and on-air studio. Help us get to $9,000 by continuing to share our project with friends, family, and neighbors who are committed to a building an outlet for community voices in Frogtown! Any extra money we raise will go directly towards the construction of our antenna and on-air studio and to putting WFNU Frogtown Community Radio on 94.1 FM"
What is WFNU/Frogtown Community Radio?
WFNU is:
a new low power FM community radio station based in Frogtown operated by Frogtown Neighborhood Association (FNA), Center for Hmong Arts and Talent (CHAT) and community members
a neighborhood resource for the Frogtown community
a space for community members to exchange ideas, arts, music, culture and stories
a transformative grassroots media movement
Our mission: WFNU is a community-driven low power FM radio station serving the greater Frogtown area. We produce content that amplifies the voices of our diverse communities.
WFNU is the product of almost 4 years of organizing around the idea that community-owned media can be a powerful tool to unite and empower the Frogtown community, the most racially diverse neighborhood in Saint Paul. In December of 2014, Frogtown Neighborhood Association and Center for Hmong Arts and Talent were jointly granted a permit from the FCC to build a community low power FM (LPFM) radio station and broadcast on 94.1 FM. We have until June 2016 to begin broadcasting. The FCC is NOT expected to grant these kinds of LPFM license again, so we need your help to put the voices of Frogtown on the FM dial.
What is my donation going towards? What do I get from donating?
We need $7,000 to buy and install an antenna and transmission equipment. Your donation will go directly to the purchase and construction of our antenna, which means that you are literally making it possible for us to create a community radio station and to broadcast on 94.1 FM. WFNU is a resource that belongs to the Frogtown community. Because of this, we are inviting anyone who donates at least $5 to come and be part of our first FM broadcast. We have cool things like shirts, bumper stickers, and CDs for anyone who is able to donate a little more.

Why community radio? Why low power FM?
Radio is one of the most affordable and accessible forms of media around the world. 92% of American adults listen to AM/FM radio each week. However, the radio workforce in the United States is 90.2% white and the majority of media is controlled by a few large companies. This means that many narratives, stories, ideas, and issues often aren’t represented in the media. When mainstream media does cover Frogtown, they tend to focus on and exaggerate negative aspects of our community. Community radio is a chance for us take control of the way we are perceived in the media and to create content that matters to us.
We are currently streaming online at wfnu.org, and, while you will always be able to access us online or on your phone, it is important to us to be able to reach our community through FM radio as many community members don’t have internet access at home.
Because we will be a LPFM radio station, our broadcast range will only encompass Frogtown and the surrounding neighborhoods. But this is one of the most exciting things about our station. Our small size will allow us to focus on producing content that matters to our community without having to cater to other audiences. We are hyper-local, so we can tap into Frogtown’s talent, resources, and community in ways that larger stations cannot.
