We are excited to present suggested Summer Reading lists for

Hackensack Public Schools Grades K-12 🌞⛱🌊

The summer months are perfect for reading exciting books and

keeping your mind sharp for the upcoming school year!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION (English and Spanish):

Why is summer reading important? This infographic from Scholastic highlights data on the benefits of summer reading according to educators.

What to do? Click on the links for your (child’s) designated Grade level to view suggested book lists.

Where do I find these books? Almost all books are available in print and online via Bergen County Cooperative Library System using your Hackensack (Johnson) Public Library card or Rochelle Park Public LIbrary card. Follow the Hackensack Library homepage or Rochelle Park Library homepage for updates about print book pickup timelines.

Are there digital copies? Yes! You can access ebooks through the school district’s Sora Reading App and through your school library with your school email - Hackensack Middle School Library ebooks OR Hackensack High School Library eBooks

If you prefer to borrow a digital copy, the Middle School and High School lists have designated icons with availability (via Hoopla and/or Libby apps). You can access these titles using your Johnson Public Library card number if you are a Hackensack Resident.

Need to make a new public library card? Please visit your local library. You will get instructions on how to register for a card and receive a physical card. Not interested in these books? No problem! Browse a family/friends’ bookshelf or a local bookstore for something that sparks your interest.

You may create your own slide template or use a copy of the one shared below. Please feel free to be creative! However all assignments must include:

Slide 1: Title slide (Title of your Review, student name)

Slide 2: About the Book (Title of book, author, page count, genre, and picture of cover)

Slide 3: Why did you pick the book (1 sentence) and what is your favorite part (3-4 sentences)

Slide 4: Would you recommend the book? (3-4 sentences)

Rubric: Assignment Rubric

Grading: The summer assignment will count as a quiz grade for marking period one
