2. Overview

InshaAllah your child will learn how to recite the Quran with Tajweed, important duas, memorise surahs and learn relevant Islamic Studies topics over the course of the two days every week. At beginner level they will practice basic Arabic reading and writing skills, duas, surah memorisation and Islamic Studies. This will develop as they get older. They will also engage in extra-curricular activities inshaAllah. Significantly, they will learn to be better Muslims and citizens and love the deen / masjid. Further details around the curriculum will be discussed at your child’s induction day.

3. Punctuality

You will be given the yearly calendar at the beginning of the year / when your child starts – most of the holidays are in line with local schools therefore there should be no excuse for a lot of absences. Grace time is allowed up to 5 minutes for being late on an occasional basis. If you know that the child will be more than 5 minutes late, a phone call/message to the Head is required to inform that the child will be late. Same rule applies if your child will be absent for the day. If your child continuously has unauthorised absences, they may lose their place at the Maktab.

Islamic dress code is required of all the students in the maktab

4. Progress and Targets

Your child will have yearly targets set for them at the beginning of each academic year for each subject. These targets will be discussed with parents in the first of 3 parent meetings.

Your child will have a progress record book in which the teacher will note down whatever progress has been made each week, along with homework tasks

Your child will also sit through 2 assessments each year, to help measure progress and attainment. These will be available to see on the yearly calendar.

5. Google Classroom

Each child / parent will be given access to Google Classroom, where the respective teacher will post announcements, share the week’s theme and provide resources when required.

As a maktab, we cover a range of themes throughout the year. The children explore and discuss the theme of the week in their weekly circle time, during the last 5 minutes of class.

6. Rewards & Discipline

We have a merit system where students can attain merits for going above and beyond – not only in class but throughout their time at the Masjid. Students who receive the most merits in their class each term will be rewarded and there are also prizes for reaching merit milestones.

The students are expected to conduct themselves in a proper, responsible and Islamic manner, respecting their teachers and other adults, their fellow students and all property. A student whose action(s) infringes upon the right(s) of others will be held responsible for the action(s), and demerits will be issued. This will then be escalated if demerits accumulate, where white/yellow/red report cards will be issued. Consistent misbehaviour may lead to expulsion.

7. Fees - there will be a one-off admission fee of £30.
