ALRP Tenant IRC Practices Outreach Survey

Do you rent or know someone who rents a home that was build before 1978?

Your response to this survey will help the Vermont Department of Health assist landlords in complying with the Vermont law that helps protect you and your family from lead poisoning.  Complete only what you know and are comfortable providing.

The Vermont Lead Poisoning Prevention Law requires owners of rental housing built before 1978 to make sure lead paint is in good condition so that it does not cause lead poisoning.  There is no safe level of lead in the body.  Lead can harm anyone, but babies, young children and pregnant women are at special risk.  Landlords are required to perform Inspection, Repair and Cleaning (IRC) Practices that include:
  • Inspecting the interior and exterior of the property every year.
  • Repairing chipping and peeling paint that is one square foot or more.
  • Filing a yearly compliance statement with the Department of Health.
  • Providing the renter with a copy of the compliance statement each year.

If you have concerns that a landlord is not meeting the requirements of this law, please enter the contact information for the landlord or property manager and describe your concerns in the space provided.  We will investigate the concern.

Even if you do not have concerns, you can enter a landlord's or property manager's contact information.  We will confirm they are up to date with their IRC Practices statement filings and may send them IRC Practices compliance information if we notice a concern.
