About the author

Award-winning entrepreneur and speaker, Chris Manion is a University of Dayton honors graduate. Her newest book, The Grateful Boat, helps heal abandonment issues through a scary experience of a terrible storm. All the characters discover a reason to be grateful in the end. Based on a true story from Hurricane Michael, the book helps children address issues of self-pity, abandonment, and doubt. The Light We Cannot See earned 1st Place in the Living Waters Children's picture book awards and five Purple Dragonfly Book Awards in 2022. This tender story comforts children and adults with a tale of how angels take care of their little ones in heaven. Her memoir, God's Patient Pursuit of My Soul, received two Catholic Press Awards. Author and memoir professor, Marion Roach Smith, called it a "handbook for living in the light." Thomas Keating said, "This book will help many increase their confidence in God's great love for us."
When she's not writing, she volunteers as a GAL (Guardian ad Litem or CASA) child advocate for foster children. Chris loves walks in the woods and kayaking, and explores her creativity in photography, cooking, poetry, and gardening. She is grateful for her children, grandchildren and beloved husband of forty-plus years.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2022When I bought this book, I expected a sweet children's story. But there is another dimension to this lovely work, both beautifully written and beautifully illustrated. It is a reassuring, creative story honoring little children who have died. Swept up in the arms of their guardian angels, met by happy, excited toys that welcome their arrival, the theme of the book is to not be afraid, not to be worried--"the spirits of children are all in good care."
This is true to the core--these little ones are safely in the arms of Jesus--and yet it is so hard to see past the darkness of loss. The story will offer so much comfort, for adults, but also, as it is so sweetly and brightly written, for children who are trying to understand and may be frightened by death and worried about what has happened to their siblings or friends.
Such a beautiful book!!
(I might not be labeled a verified purchaser because the delivery status shows "running late," but I promise you, the book arrived! :-) And I'm very glad that I read it! :-))
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2022This is such an inspirational children’s book, it touched my heart to read such lovely tale honoring those children that are no longer on this earth. The extraordinary concept of having them around visiting toy stores it elevated my spirit to a place of peace and delight. I read this book as the Uvalde tragedy happened and was overcome with an avalanche of emotions. Chris Marion has transformed the sadness of loosing her own child into a comforting masterpiece. The beautiful illustrations are rich and powerful, I was pleased to see the little angels of all colors coming together to bring us The Light We Cannot See.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2021With gentleness and wisdom, author Chris Manion weaves a beautifully rhymed tale that at first appears to be specifically written for young children. Readers will quickly realize, however, that this gem will bless not only kids (who are sure to enjoy every page), but also those adults who have lost children. The story will help those who love and miss little ones to picture them in the care of God's vigilant, loving, guardian angels. When loss and sorrow threaten to overwhelm hope, this thoughtfully crafted little book will remind readers of every age that even when we can't see the Light, it's there, and our beloved ones are wrapped in God's care.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2021I bought this book for a relative who had lost a child but I peeked and read it myself. What an amazing story! Delightful for anyone with childlike faith and even for those who don't. Try it - you'll like it. It would also make a great gift for people. Thanks, Chris for using your God-given imagination to deliver this book to the world.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2021Oh how touchingly beautiful. And what a powerful message for anyone and everyone. But most especially for those who have lost a child. A quick read, but one that is worth reading again and again. While in the future the book gathers dust, the message will remain a sweet kiss to the spirit and darkness will lose its power.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2021What an adorable children’s book. The illustrations are gorgeous and the rhyme is perfect. If your family suffered from loss due to the death of a child, this book will comfort the family.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2023I love the creative illustrations. They captured my attention. Each time I reread the book, I noticed different things. The story is beautifully told in way that will soothe little ones fears if they might be facing the afterlife. What awaits them? If they read this story they will smile.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2023I had the pleasure of inviting Chris to come to my library to read this book. This is a truly wonderful book that teaches children about a very emotionally subject. My students loved looking for the dove on each page.
