This book is written for people who don't know much about neural plasticity, but wish they did, and also wish they knew some ways to take advantage of these new discoveries in brain science to make their lives better.

The explanations of the science are reasonably thorough. The ideas about how to take advantage of these discoveries serves as a perfectly good introduction to a variety of techniques, like CBT, mindfulness meditation, and others. I did not think there was really enough detail about any of these techniques to really let me evaluate which ones might be useful or interesting for me to try. However, the book has great footnotes and references, so it's easy to figure out where to learn more about topics that interest you.

Recommended as a good place to start.

Even if you're not depressed, or actively looking for self-help, this book is worth reading. It breaks everything down easily, and has piqued my curiosity for all things 'brain'. It gives you a lot of great, beginner-level ideas for fixing your sleep patterns, your diet, your relationships, and all other aspects of your lifestyle to make you feel better (emotionally and physically).

It's very empowering to know that YOU can change your brain and your life...this book gave me a lot of hope, and I would recommend it to anyone (at any level of happiness) in a heartbeat.

The first 90 pages were mindless drivel, but that is as far as I got. Today, a lot is known about physical fitness, and I figured that since a lot of real scientific research has been done on the brain, maybe something practical was known about mental self-development. But,then again, maybe not.

I like it this book, it is simple and have many exercises for me to do. But I prefer to see more pictures about brain anatomy, then I will understand better which parts that they are talking about. Overall is good.
