The Quarantine Challenge

Being isolated doesn't have to mean feeling alone.

Hi. I'm Catherine Price, science journalist, author of How to Break Up With Your Phone, creator of ScreenLifeBalance.com, and fellow human being.

We're facing a global crisis, and if you're on this page (or, uh, anywhere in the world right now!), I'm willing to guess that you're probably not in the calmest state of mind. You're probably also feeling like your own Screen/Life Balance has gone out the window recently, as you try to quell your anxiety by checking and rechecking the news. It's a twitch that, while certainly understandable, is probably only making you feel worse.

Here is the good news: while we can't control the uncertainty that surrounds us right now, we CAN control how we respond to it.  "Being informed" doesn't mean we need to keep our anxiety levels sky high all the time by staying constantly tuned in. And being physically isolated doesn't mean that we need to feel emotionally apart.

That's why I've created the #QuarantineChallenge: I want to help you find some positivity and calm by providing tools and ideas for how we can reclaim the time that we are currently spending scouring headlines and direct it toward activities that nourish, calm, and connect us.

Join the #QuarantineChallenge and you'll receive regular emails offering resources, exercises and inspiration, invitations to live online events, and access to a weekly live #QuarantineChat where I'll be offering advice—and answering reader questions—about how to stay sane (and inspired!) during this crisis.

Feeling intrigued but totally overwhelmed? Don't worry: you are not required to DO anything as a participant in the challenge. The point is simply to give you access to ideas and resources that I've specifically chosen to help you feel less overwhelmed.

So sign up. Invite family and friends. And let's get through this—TOGETHER.

Catherine

Note: by signing up for this challenge you agree to be added to the Screen/Life Balance newsletter list, which is very occasional—and hopefully always useful! (But don't worry if you're already on that list; this is a separate list, and you won't get duplicate emails.)

Words of Wisdom

“As long as you are breathing, there is more right with you than there is wrong, no matter how ill or how hopeless you may feel.” —Jon Kabat-Zinn, Full Catastrophe Living
