Tell Congress: Repeal the global gag rule
The global gag rule prevents people around the world from accessing the sexual and reproductive health care that they want and need. We have a once-in-a-generation chance to repeal this dangerous and discriminatory policy for good. Join us in demanding that Congress repeal it.

Leader Schumer and Speaker Pelosi,
As a supporter of American Jewish World Service and someone who is motivated by the deeply held belief that all people deserve access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, I write today to urge you to permanently repeal the harmful global gag rule this year. Permanent repeal of the global gag rule is a critical step toward ensuring that women, girls and LGBTQI+ people across the globe have access to the health care that they want and need, and that their rights and dignity are respected.
Women, girls and LGBTQI+ people in marginalized communities already face stigma and discrimination in their access to health care. Since 1984, the global gag rule has put individuals at greater risk of harm by cutting off access to crucial services including family planning and reproductive health, HIV treatment and prevention, and maternal care due to the closure of clinics or the disruption of services in their communities. While I am grateful that President Biden rescinded the previous administration’s expansion of the global gag rule, its effects continue in countries around the world and a future administration could reinstate this damaging policy.
Your leadership is more important than ever to ensure that permanent repeal of the global gag rule is a foreign policy priority. Repeal of this draconian policy is urgent and possible in the final federal appropriations bill this year, but we need your support. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to eliminate this draconian policy once and for all and I hope that you will stand firm in support of sexual and reproductive health and rights around the world.
