Mandate Face-to-Face Consultations for All GP Appointments

Mandate Face-to-Face Consultations for All GP Appointments
The Issue
This petition is born out of a heart-wrenching personal experience. A dear friend, Lisa, lost her vibrant sister, Laura Barlow at just 33 years old. Laura battled to secure GP appointments and was repeatedly dismissed by A&E for months. When she finally received tests, it was too late - she was diagnosed with cancer and tragically passed away within three weeks. This preventable death could have been avoided if the GP had seen her face-to-face in the first place.
Laura leaves behind three young children and a loving husband; their lives forever marred by this tragedy that could have been prevented with timely medical intervention.
Sadly, Laura's story is not unique. Many people are being misdiagnosed or undiagnosed due to the lack of face-to-face consultations with GPs. The devastating consequence is that we are losing many young people prematurely.
We believe that all patients should be entitled to face-to-face consultations as standard practice in healthcare settings across our nation. It's time we put an end to avoidable tragedies like Laura's by ensuring everyone has access to comprehensive healthcare assessments which can only truly be achieved through direct patient-doctor interactions.
Join us in calling on health authorities to mandate face-to-face consultations for all GP appointments! Sign this petition today and help us bring about this vital change in our healthcare system!

It took the Dr almost one year of me complaining of excruciating on and off pain on my left ovarie area (and finally me saying I wouldn’t leave his office without further testing referral) to get a referral for an ultrasound. The result was a 22 cm and 20 pound tumor on my left ovary, the only solution was surgery, a salpingo-oophorectomy. What could have been done laparoscopic if it was detected in the beginning ended up being a 5hr plus open belly surgery!
As someone who has been mis-diagnosed (in a face to face consultation) before this system was put into place, I am now petrified of needing a doctor, as they do as much as possibly can, not to actually see you, I have been given strong pain killers and antibiotics over the phone multiple times since this system came into place, on one occasion instead of prescribing me medication, they should have sent me onto hospital, after suffering in agony I took myself to A+E where I was diagnosed with Sepsis and septic shock. I feel that if a doctor had seen me, they would have been able to test my blood pressure and physically seen how unwell I was.
Considering the amount of misdiagnoses and harmful medication combinations I have had at 21 when I have had chronic pain since 2018 and endometriosis is one of the first ones that I was diagnosed with and an exploratory laparoscopy was done and it was supposed to have been seen but nothing was removed and it became used as a blanket reason for horrible pain that had been continuously causing damage to my bladder each day and that was harming my stomach, liver, and kidneys, due to medication combinations, this is a very personal cause and very devastating story that hits close to home. I send thoughts and prayers to his family/everyone mourning the unnecessary loss of his late wife, and demand our healthcare system to do better.
