A man prominent in country music in Western New York has died. "Ramblin' Lou" Schriver was a musician, promoter and broadcaster whose career dates back into the 1940s. Schriver, who was 86, was well known in the country music field, and was a promoter of country music in Buffalo for parts of seven decades. He was the patriarch of a family band that performed around Western New York and at the Grand Ole Opry.
Schriver was also the owner of radio station WXRL in Lancaster and was a promoter who brought country acts to Buffalo and who sponsored bus trips to country music venues.
Schriver died of heart problems Sunday in Buffalo General Hospital. His funeral will be held Friday at Salem United Church of Christ, 114 Morgan Street, in Tonawanda at 10:30 a.m.
