Hair braiding has been happening for thousands of years across the world, but it is thought that Afro hair braiding started in the African country of Namibia. Many years ago, different patterns in the braids were used to identity different families. Today people all over the world use the same techniques to braid hair. 

Braiding hair can be very tricky and is known as a social art form in many cultures because it takes a long time to do and you can form a close bond with the person braiding your hair. Many families will braid each other's hair and pass down the skills to the next generation. Just like Charlene from the hairdressers.
