kenwood.house@english-heritage.org.uk‘     Details that we know: "Landscape near the Dairy and opening up the views at Kenwood   English Heritage wish to remove trees to open up the view from and to the Dairy  down the hill towards the ‘Thousand Pound Pond’.    Thursday 9 January    Caring for Kenwood project, English Heritage wish to remove trees to open up the view from and to the Dairy

down the hill towards the ‘Thousand Pound Pond’.

On Thursday 9 January we were given full details of their plans. They are as follows:

1. Remove all mature trees between the Dairy buildings and the West Meadow entrance gate to the Lime

Avenue near the Henry Moore statue. This would mean felling the stand of the three copper beeches, two

sweet chestnuts and an oak on the slope down from the Dairy. There are other trees on the same slope

which would also be removed. The grassland would then be maintained annually by mowing as a meadow.

This would reveal a wide view between the Dairy and the Thousand Pound Pond.

2. Remove the hedge at the entrance gate to reveal a distant view towards Highgate (Millfield Lane, near the

Russian Trade Delegation).

3. Remove mature trees and peripheral (self-seeded) trees – birch, alder and holly - from the eastern edge of

West Meadow, so revealing a ‘window’ through which the Dairy can be spotted from the House. The reduced holly on that hedgerow to be laid, and the rhododendrons reduced in height to maintain this opening. The aim is that the view would entice a visitor to the House to embark upon a visit to the Dairy.

A total number of 27 mature trees would be felled. "
