National Survey to Past and Present Student Microfinance Club Members
Dear Student Microfinance Club Member,

My name is Linda Peng, and I am an undergraduate student at Duke University researching the potential for student microfinance clubs to help scale microfinance in the U.S. through partnerships with microfinance institutions such as ACCION USA, a leading provider of access to credit and financial education to micro entrepreneurs in the U.S. I am writing to ask if you would be willing to participate in a one-page, 5-minute survey about your experiences with your student microfinance club. I may ask you questions like “what motivated you to join your student microfinance club?” or “what resources would your student microfinance club find most useful?

For your participation, I will be giving you the opportunity to enter into a raffle for two MP3 players and two $15 Amazon.com gift cards. The first winner will be selected from the first 25 survey participants; the second winner will be selected from the next 25 participants, and so forth. Updates about my research experience and the giveaway will be tweeted @MFstudentsurvey.

The results of this online survey will be used to make recommendations for effective partnerships between student microfinance clubs and microfinance institutions like ACCION USA. This means that I will be sharing with ACCION USA some of the information I collect about your microfinance organization. I will not be sharing any personal information from this survey.

Please know that your participation in this survey is voluntary and much appreciated. Furthermore, I encourage you to skip or check "N/A" to any question in the survey that you cannot or do not wish to answer. Note that if you wish to cancel your participation in this survey, you may simply close the survey.

If you have any questions about this research, please do not hesitate to contact me at linda.peng@duke.edu. If you would like to speak to my advisor at Duke University regarding this study, you may contact Dr. Lori Leachman via e-mail at leachman@duke.edu. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a participant in a research study, you may contact the Chair of the Duke University Human Subjects Committee at (919) 684-3030.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Linda
